
All in the Family

With the recent passing of Caroll O'Connor, another era in television history has come to a close. Television is still a fine medium. Sure it is. I know this is true because my friends still watch television. All five of them. Alas, my television is broken and when I plug it in sparks fly out from the back of the set. I have not watched television since Hill Street Blues went off the air. I hear there is something called cable?All in The Family was one of those shows which will live forever and ever and will be syndicated to preserve it for generations to come so that the Cultural Illiteracy in this Nation will at least include Gloria, Meathead, Edith the dingbat and, of course, Archie.
Dingbat.
What a wonderful word in retrospect, and it will always be identified with Archie and Edith. Edith loved Archie and Archie loved Edith. And his chosen term of endearment was Dingbat.
Boy the way Glenn Miller Played . . . .
Archie's humor will remain a cornerstone in this Country's History. Archie lived during the Nixon years, and Richard M. Nixon was a better man because of him, which was not an easy thing to pull off. Providing a balance to Politics so far out of balance was an incredible feat and no easy challenge. The Producers and writers of All in the Family did an incredible job.
Songs that made the Hit Parade . . .
Beloved Archie Bunker has retired to his favorite easy chair with the Old Man Upstairs. Grab him a Beer, someone, and make him feel quite at home. We have lost a friend here down below.
Guys like us, we had it made.
